What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is a Core Strength and Conditioning program suitable for all levels. The CrossFit program is not a specialized fitness program, but a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness categories: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. The aim of CrossFit is to forge a broad, general and inclusive fitness. Its specialty is not specializing, rather building a fitness program that will improve ones level of fitness in all areas. CrossFit is a sport- the sport of fitness. We’ve learned that by harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition, and fun of sport, you will yield an intensity that cannot be matched by any other means. This approach allows CrossFit to produce athletes who are outstanding in all areas of fitness.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The CrossFit prescription is “constantly varied functional movements performed at high intensities”. Functional movements are universal motor recruitment patterns that are performed in a wave of contraction from the core to extremity, they are movements that are compound and require multi joint movement. They are movements that are natural to the human body, effective, and efficient.
